About Me
I began mixing audio for our school’s Music Studio Club using GarageBand, which I instantly fell in love with. As a natural tinkerer, I relished messing with every knob and slider. Since I only had a Chromebook at the time, I explored as much web-based freeware as possible. Once I had enough money to buy a PC, I continued to experiment with various software.
During my sophomore year, I started playing bass in my school’s pep band and the concert band the following year. I also joined my high school rock ensemble, gaining valuable experience in setting up bar gigs and concert halls quickly and efficiently. We often performed in the atrium as students arrived, so time was of the essence, and I got good at lugging a bass amp and speaker from the music room.
When I entered college, I had the chance to pursue an apprenticeship as a sound technician for the UConn Marching Band. I eagerly accepted the opportunity. From this experience, I gained hands-on experience as a sound technician, running my first solo gig within a month of my first exposure to the sound system. The exhilarating rush fueled my passion, leading me to secure the role of Lead Sound Technician and ultimately deciding to pursue this career. I left the marching band amicably, learning numerous valuable lessons along the way.
I also had the incredible experience of being the Live Production Director at WHUS 91.7. In this role, I managed their studio sessions and had the privilege of meeting and broadcasting the sets of some incredible artists. We recorded their live performances in our studio and aired them on the radio, as well as uploading them to our YouTube channel. By the end of my tenure there, we had established a streamlined workflow that allowed us to set up a standard band in under an hour. I eventually left the station to pursue freelance work but maintain a strong relationship with them.
I have since joined Manchester Community College as an intern with ICE Radio, where I am involved in organizing the studio and developing shows for air. Through ICE Radio, I have had the opportunity to network with many industry professionals, with the highlight being a brief encounter with Scot Haney, where we sang Sondheim’s Send in the Clowns together.
Currently, I offer my freelance production services to the UConn and MCC communities through Vango Media, my own company. I continue to learn valuable lessons about running shows in both studio and live settings. I have been involved in every aspect of the process, from setting up chairs and providing hospitality to planning audio stageplots and operating the mixing board. I have had the privilege of running shows in various venues, from small lobbies to concert halls with hundreds of attendees!
